Overview
GKN Aerospace is recruiting for its new composite manufacturing and assembly facility at Western Approach. The facility will manufacture, test and assemble primary aircraft structure components, including A350 and A400M carbon wing spars. We are seeking people with composite material and aerostructures assembly experience to lead, develop and establish the latest technologies in this state of the art manufacturing facility. Purpose: To measure aircraft components throughout the build process, to ensure parts are conforming to drawing tolerances. Carry out subsequent sub assembly and CNC automated activities, which meet design and engineering requirements.
Responsibilities
- Measure aircraft components throughout the build process to ensure conformity to drawing tolerances.
- Carry out sub-assembly and CNC automated activities that meet design and engineering requirements.
- Assemble and trim components using conventional and advanced methods.
- Use laser projector equipment, non destructive test (NDT) machines and jigged assembly techniques.
- Operate coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and laser trackers; interpret engineering drawings and CAD data; GD&T knowledge.
- Work in accordance with Health & Safety requirements, COSHH and safe systems of work.
- Embrace lean manufacture, waste reduction and improvement initiatives.
- Undertake training in advanced composite assembly techniques & processes; potential progression to first party certification after successful training.
- Collaborate in a small team environment led by Process Team Leaders.
- Work flexible shift patterns in line with operational requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- A good engineering problem solver.
- Proficient in the use of CAD software and metrology software.
- Ability to use Co-ordinate measuring Machines and laser trackers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD data; GD&T experience.
- Experience in assembly and trimming of components using conventional and advanced methods.
- Knowledge of aircraft bonded assemblies and understanding of aircraft drawings, limits and quality systems.
- Self-motivated with good communication skills; able to work in small teams.
- Served a recognised apprenticeship or relevant experience in composite or aircraft environment.
- Preferably trained in lean manufacturing and safety requirements.
- Must be able to work shift patterns in line with operational requirements.

6 month rolling contract. Training will be available for this role.
Remuneration and Hours
Rate £23.59 per hour. Weekday overtime £27.65 per hour. Weekend overtime £36.86 per hour. Shift pattern averages 40.25 hours per week.
