Job Description
Please note, this is initially a 15 Month Fixed Term Contract.
Working hours are Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm.
As a Quality Assurance & Compliance Officer, you will provide operational support in maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS) and assisting with compliance to ISO standards and Health & Safety processes within the Clinical Diagnostics laboratory.
* Assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the QMS (Q-Pulse) with its associated ISO or other regulatory standards as per service requirements, including document control, logging non-conformities, trending corrective actions, and opportunities for improvement.
* Deputise for the Deputy Quality Manager within scope, act as a UKAS contact when required, ensuring timely management of UKAS assessment findings, with documentation of root causes, impacts, and completion of agreed actions by submission deadlines.
* Train laboratory staff in applicable health and safety requirements, quality inductions, document control, non-conformities change management, and auditing techniques when required. Develop training materials and presentations to assist with this, liaising with other lead scientists.
* Coordinate and organise annual temperature monitoring probes and pipette calibration services between clinical diagnostics and genetics. Review, follow up, or escalate actions raised by suppliers.
* Ensure all equipment records, calibration, and monitoring are carried out by relevant laboratory staff and that appropriate records are maintained.
* Support the quality team in preparation and coordination of internal and external audits by compiling documentation and maintaining audit schedules.
* Help ensure quality documentation, including procedures, IQC/EQA, and the Quality Manual, are kept up to date.
* Monitor and log non-conformities, escalating overdue actions to the Deputy Quality Manager.
* Assist in organising monthly and bimonthly meetings.
* Support in maintaining records of staff training in quality and health & safety requirements.
* Work with training coordinators to ensure the laboratory, management, and medical training matrix is current.
* Assist in incident reporting processes and coordinate Health & Safety inspections.
Qualifications
* Educated to degree level or equivalent in Biomedical Science or a related field.
* Active CPD portfolio within the field.
* Experience in Blood Sciences service specialties.
* Experience in Change Management.
* Experience supporting a quality management system: ISO 9001, ISO 15189.
* Experience in performing various types of audits.
* Experience with document control software such as Q pulse, including uploading and reviewing documentation.
* Experience in assay validation/verification pre-acceptance testing.
* Experience in writing and reviewing SOPs.
* Experience handling adverse incidents and performing root cause analysis.
* Strong communication skills—both written and verbal.
* Proactive approach to tasks.
