JOB TITLE: Teacher - Post-Primary
REPORTS TO: Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher
Regulations
Under the Teachers’ (Terms and Conditions of Employment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987, Schedule 3, Regulation 5, a teacher shall:
1. Exercise of general professional duties
A teacher who is not a principal shall carry out professional duties as circumstances require:
* (a) if employed as a teacher in a school, under the reasonable direction of the principal;
* (b) if employed by a board without a fixed school assignment, under the reasonable direction of the board and the principal of any school where they may be required to work.
1. Exercise of particular duties
In accordance with directions from the principal or the board, a teacher shall perform such particular duties as reasonably assigned.
Key Responsibilities
1. Planning
* Planning and preparing courses and lessons;
* Teaching pupils based on their educational needs, including setting and marking work;
* Assessing, recording, and reporting on pupils' development, progress, and attainment.
1. General
* Promoting pupils' progress and well-being;
* Providing advice and guidance on educational, social matters, and future careers;
* Making records and reports on pupils’ personal and social needs;
* Communicating with parents;
* Collaborating with external bodies approved by the employing authority and the Board of Governors;
* Participating in relevant meetings.
1. Assessment/Reporting
Providing assessments, reports, and references related to pupils, ensuring confidentiality where necessary.
1. Staff Development
* Participating in staff development and performance reviews;
* Reviewing and developing teaching methods and programmes;
* Contributing to course development and teaching materials.
1. Discipline/Health and Safety
* Maintaining good order and discipline;
* Safeguarding pupils’ health and safety;
* Participating in curriculum and administrative meetings.
1. Public Examinations
Preparing pupils for exams, assessing, recording, and supervising during examinations.
1. Management Activities/Administration
* Contributing to staff recruitment, development, and curriculum management;
* Managing support staff and resources;
* Participating in school activities and supervising pupils.
1. Working Hours
A full-time teacher shall work 195 days per year, with specific hours and duties as outlined, including classroom teaching, preparation, and supervision duties.
1. Staff Cover
Covering for absent teachers within specified conditions and school sizes, with responsibilities for supervision and teaching as required.

Section 1 - Essential Criteria
* Qualifications: Recognized teaching qualification and degree or equivalent in Modern Languages.
* Experience: At least 6 months’ teaching experience in French at Key Stages 3 and 4, using diverse strategies and digital media.
* Registration: Must be registered with GTCNI before appointment.
Section 2 - Additional Essential Criteria
* Knowledge of curriculum, safeguarding, SEND, IT, assessment methods.
* Skills: Effective classroom management, inclusive environment, collaboration, motivation.
* Values: Alignment with school ethos and values.
Section 3 - Desirable Criteria
* Experience in teaching RE or IT, supporting diverse learners, monitoring progress, or sports delivery.
