Highways Design Engineer - Civil 3D / MicroDrainage | Growing North East Consultancy Location: North East, UK Salary: Competitive Chartership Support Excellent Benefits Company Type: Established SME Civil Engineering Consultancy Sector: Highways, Infrastructure, Civil Design About the Role An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Highways Design Engineer to join a dynamic and expanding civil engineering consultancy in the North East. This is a varied and hands-on design role, offering the chance to work on both public realm major infrastructure projects and large private developments. Recent high-profile schemes include: A66 Cargo Fleet Roundabout improvements Stainsby Grange Housing Growth (including a 2km link road and full highways and drainage design)You'll have the autonomy to manage your own design work while benefiting from the close-knit, supportive environment of a growing SME-working alongside everyone from Directors to Apprentices. The consultancy also provides full support toward ICE Chartership. Key Responsibilities Produce detailed designs for highways, drainage, pavements, and other civil infrastructure elements using Civil 3D and MicroDrainage. Work on a range of preliminary and detailed design projects, both public and private sector. Apply engineering judgement to solve day-to-day challenges and deliver high-quality design outputs. Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and understand the full project lifecycle-from planning to completion. Communicate confidently with clients, contractors, and internal teams to maintain strong working relationships. Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians where required.About You Proficient in Autodesk Civil 3D and MicroDrainage (InfraDrainage experience is a plus). Good understanding of highway and drainage design standards. Able to work independently and take ownership of design packages. Strong communicator, both written and verbal, with excellent interpersonal skills. Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and eager to develop your professional skills.
