Overview
We are recruiting for an experienced Applications Engineer – CNC to support manufacturing operations within a highly regulated precision manufacturing environment.
This is initially a 3-month contract role, with the potential to extend. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering and production teams to support new product introduction, optimise machining processes, and ensure manufacturing operations run effectively against production plans.
The role requires strong CNC machining knowledge across complex milled components, along with experience developing and improving machining processes.
Key Responsibilities
• Own and support the manufacturing process for assigned components and programmes, ensuring jobs run effectively in line with production plans.
• Develop, review and improve manufacturing work instructions and process documentation.
• Identify and drive process improvements and machining optimisation opportunities.
• Represent engineering in daily operations meetings, providing technical input and supporting issue resolution.
• Act as a subject matter expert in CNC machining and manufacturing processes.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to implement best-practice machining and manufacturing solutions.
• Support production teams with technical guidance and troubleshooting when required.
Experience Required
• Experience working in a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
• Significant experience machining complex milled and turned components.
• Ability to review technical drawings and interpret GD&T.
• Proven experience delivering engineering or process improvement projects.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing process control and change management.
Technical Skills
Candidates should have strong experience in:
• Profile milling
• 3-axis CNC milling
• Mastercam programming
• Siemens NX CAD/CAM
• CNC machining process development and optimisation
• Fixture and tooling design
• Cycle time optimisation and machining efficiency improvements
• Root cause problem solving (8D, DMAIC or similar)
• Manufacturing documentation including BOMs, routings and ERP systems
Qualifications
• Apprenticeship or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a CNC manufacturing or applications engineering role
