Civil Operative – Live HV Substation Location: Melksham Contact Stan Pincott - A contractor delivering works on a National Grid substation project in Melksham is looking to appoint an experienced civil operative with the appropriate national grid authorisations to work on a live substation. This is a critical safety-focused role supporting day-to-day site operations within a high-risk environment. The Role As a Civil Operative working on a live HV substation, you will be responsible for maintaining safe, controlled and compliant access for personnel, vehicles and plant, in line with National Grid safety requirements. Key Responsibilities Managing site access within a live National Grid substation Working strictly in accordance with NG NSI Safety Rules Acting as a competant person under NSI 6 & 8 Ensuring safe movement of delivery vehicles and site plant Supporting groundwork and general civils activities as required Maintaining high standards of safety and compliance at all times Essential Requirements Civil Operative qualified as Competant person Proven experience working in or around HV substations Strong understanding of access control on National Grid sites Ability to follow strict permit systems and safety procedures Manual Handling Certificate Experience carrying out general groundworker duties Desirable Previous experience on National Grid or power-sector projects Good knowledge of HSG 47 – Avoiding Danger from Underground Services Strong communication and coordination skills What to Do Next If you’re interested in this opportunity, please apply now with an up-to-date CV or contact us directly for more information.
