The M365 Core organization has got multiple positions open for Mid Level and Senior Applied Scientist across different teams withinMicrosoft Development Centers in UK, Estonia, Czech Republic and Romania.

The Applied Scientist II and Senior Applied Scientist positions within M365 Core are tailored for individuals passionate about advancing artificial intelligence, machine learning, and model optimization in the context of Microsoft 365's core services. As part of an agile and innovative team, you will contribute directly to the development and fine-tuning of large language models (LLMs) and task-specific agents that power intelligent features across the M365 ecosystem, such as Copilot, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive. Responsibilities

* Conduct research and development to push the boundaries of model training, evaluation, and quality assessment for AI solutions.
* Fine-tune LLMs on tenant data to enable task-specific agents and solutions within the enterprise ecosystem.
* Collaborate with engineers and researchers to advance deep learning, natural language processing (NLP), multimodal models, and model optimization techniques.
* Measure, analyze, and report on model performance, quality, and impact using predictive analytics and statistical methodologies.
* Contribute to a culture of inclusion, respect, integrity, and accountability while fostering innovation and growth across teams.


Qualifications


Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND demonstrated experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
* OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND proven experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
* OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field
* OR equivalent experience.
* Confirmed experience training/fine tuning AI/ML models, preferably LLMs/SLMs (small language model).
* Proven experience with productization or shipping ML and/or AI components at internet scale.
* Proficient in at least one programming language commonly used in machine learning (e.g., Python).

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

* Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)
* OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
* OR Doctorate in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
* OR equivalent experience.
* Experience creating publications such as patents or peer-reviewed academic papers
* Demonstrated experience with end-to-end in a challenging technical problem domain (plan, design, execution, continuous release, and service operation).
* Proficient in building Generative AI pipelines, e.g. with RAG (Retrieval augmented generation).
