The Plant H&S Specialist will focus on plant H&S initiatives, rollout safety policies, and help take the H&S program to the next level. This position reports to the Plant Health & Safety Manager and will work closely with plant leadership and the corporate Safety team to embrace our goal of a "zero harm workplace".

Responsibilities

* Supports and promotes safe practices in alignment with company commitments, policies and compliance requirements.
* Acts as an OSHA regulatory compliance resource.
* Leads or participates in incident investigations (injury, property damage, near miss, environmental deviations, etc.) and root cause analysis, and works with the plant operations team to determine appropriate corrective/preventative action.
* Performs risk and hazard assessments/inspections to determine employee risk/exposure and suggests/advocates actions to mitigate or reduce them.
* Establishes and drives continuous improvement in the facility’s safety monitoring and record‑keeping systems to ensure compliance with all JM policies and federal regulatory requirements.
* Assists the plant operations team and JM Corporate Safety to evaluate and determine appropriate proactive safety strategies for projects that may impact the facility or employees.
* Develops action plans for safety activities, coordinates the plant Safety Committee team, follows up on these activities, and reports status to the Plant Manager.
* Facilitates safety and health training for all plant personnel.
* Compiles and tracks all documentation for compliance with all safety and health policies and required activities (Work Notifications, Inspection Records, OSHA 300, etc.).
* Supports plant initiatives towards Lean, Kaizen, Cost Reduction, 5S and other facility improvements.
* Ensures compliance with all safety and health policies, procedures and programs.
* Ensures all safety and health metrics and reports are completed and communicated in a timely manner.
* Assists in workers‑compensation cases.
* Serves as training coordinator for all H&S‑related trainings through SafetySkills and other computer‑based training (CBT).


Qualifications

* Associates degree (Safety and Health or Environmental preferred), professional certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, recognized professional certification in Occupational Health & Safety or Industrial Hygiene, or equivalent degree.
* Prior safety‑specific training (OSHA 30‑hour, Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health, etc.).
* Two years’ experience in a safety role in an industrial or manufacturing setting or four years of relevant industrial or manufacturing experience in a JM facility; comfortable working in a plant environment.
* Working knowledge of federal safety and health laws (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
* Ability to work with outside agencies and contracted employees.
* Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); ability to use various software to analyze data, create reports and presentations.
* Ability to climb stairs, ladders, walk extensively, enter confined spaces, wear a respirator (if applicable) and handle exposures to hot/cold environments.
* Excellent communication, training and organizational skills.
* Demonstrated root‑cause analysis skills (RCCA, 5‑Whys).
* Leadership skills to direct personnel, implement initiatives, supervise teams and perform follow‑up activities.
* Analytical ability to assess complex situations and apply problem‑solving strategies.
* Ability to work independently.
* Ability to be on call, as needed 24/7.
* Ability to travel up to 5%.
* Professional certifications in Safety, Environmental or Occupational Health (e.g., ASP, CSP, CIH, OHST, SMS, CEM, CHMM, etc.).

Pay Range: $71,300.00–$98,000.00 Annual. This position is eligible for an incentive bonus.
