Product developer – paint, coatings and adhesives

Nottingham (Nottinghamshire)
Games Workshop Group PLC
Product developer
€60,000 - €80,000 a year

Offer description

Our Hobby Supplies Studio team are the workshop behind Games Workshop; the hidden heroes that expertly design the paints and tools that bring Warhammer miniatures to life! They’re experimental and inventive, scrutinising the tiniest of details to make every paint, tool and hobby supply available the best it can be so that when customers use our products, they can achieve results that make them proud.

In this rare and exciting opportunity, we are looking for a Product Developer to join the Paint, Coatings and Adhesives team. Trailblazers in the miniature painting industry, they research and develop new and existing paints, carefully growing them into products that are not only commercial successes but reliable must-have staples of every miniature hobbyist’s toolkit.

Reporting to the Product Development Manager, you will work closely with other team members and external partners to thoroughly test, refine and improve new and existing paint and chemical products. Answer-hunters, Product Developers always want to know the ‘whats, whys and hows’, diligently testing, evaluating and reporting on what improvements can be made. Thorough and methodical, you know that your results will be seen on millions of models globally, and take this responsibility seriously, applying care and respect to everything you do.

The ideal person for this role will intuitively know what good looks like, and be able to quantify that with excellent written and verbal communication skills. We’ll look to you to proactively seek answers, feeding them into clear, concise and comprehensive feedback documents and written briefs. Some answers take years of painstaking research to find, others may need your feedback and judgement by the end of the day. Some trails may go cold entirely, requiring you to shelve an idea or head back to the beginning to seek a new approach.

Organised and mindful you will manage a workload that includes multiple projects at different stages of development with ease, knowing how to plan tasks to get the most out of the time you have. Although you will juggle many projects, you will maintain stringent product testing parameters to ensure what is approved for production is the absolute best it can be, whilst always being prepared for the unexpected and changing department priorities.

If you have an affinity for the Warhammer hobby or any relevant creative hands-on activity that uses paint, this could be the role for you! Experience or qualifications in a design-related or chemical industry is desirable but not essential. You do not need to know everything about the chemistry of paint as training will be provided, but you must have a rapport with the medium and the colours that make the Warhammer Universe.

Applicants will be asked to successfully complete a colour acuity test later in the application process.
