Job Description
Senior Accounts Manager
My client is seeking an experienced, commercially minded Senior Accounts Manager to join our leadership team in Stockton-on-Tees.
This is a pivotal role within the firm, offering the opportunity to lead a diverse and established client portfolio, contribute to strategic decision-making, and play a key role in the continued growth and development of the practice. The position would suit either an experienced Senior Manager ready to step up, or an existing Director seeking a progressive and forward-thinking firm.
Key Responsibilities
Client Portfolio & Technical Leadership
- Manage a portfolio of owner-managed businesses and corporate clients across a range of sectors
- Oversee the preparation and review of statutory accounts in accordance with UK GAAP / FRS 102
- Review management accounts, tax computations, and VAT returns
- Provide strategic financial advice and business support to clients
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards
- Act as a key point of contact for high-value and complex client matters
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop Managers and senior members of the accounts team
- Oversee workflow planning, resource allocation, and delivery deadlines
- Support recruitment, retention, and succession planning
- Promote a collaborative, high-performance culture
Business Development & Strategic Growth
- Build and maintain strong long-term client relationships
- Identify opportunities to grow existing client accounts
- Contribute to new business generation through networking and referrals
- Support and influence the firms strategic growth objectives
- Drive improvements in systems, processes, and efficiencies
The Ideal Candidate
- ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent)
- Significant experience within an accountancy practice environment
- Proven experience managing a substantial client portfolio
- Strong technical knowledge of UK accounting standards
- Commercially astute with a proactive advisory mindset
- Demonstrable leadership and team management capability
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ambitious, strategic, and growth-oriented
