Overview
We are seeking compassionate and caring individuals to join our team, who have a desire to provide high standards of care for patients on Lancaster Suite at Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The Lancaster Suite is a short stay medical ward caring for a range of patients with main specialties in Diabetes/Endocrinology and Gastroenterology. We provide care for 28 patients and aim to deliver high standards of care, using quality improvement to develop the service further.
You will work with the support of and under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), providing nursing care and assistance to patients within defined parameters specified by the Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities
* Record patient information and keep clear and accurate records.
* Provide basic fundamental care for all patients and document that care in the patient notes or paper charts.
* Work effectively with the multidisciplinary team to achieve outcomes that promote patient well-being.
* Assist the Registered Nurses in delivering care to a designated patient group, prioritising workload.
* Assist in the implementation of direct clinical care.
* Determine the comfort of patients by talking with them, listening, and building rapport.
* Assist in feeding patients who are unable to do so themselves and complete food charts where required.
* Ensure all care provided is documented.
* Recognise changes in patient condition.
* Ensure patient dignity and individual needs are met.
* Support nursing staff with information and advice on health.
* Instigate emergency procedures (e.g., fire; CPR).
* Act as an effective role model for ward staff.
* Assist in ensuring effective channels are used to capture the views and concerns of all patients.
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness and follow infection control guidelines.
* Undertake training and practice of agreed clinical competencies in basic nursing skills for designated roles.
* Keep up to date with changes in clinical practice and their impact on your role.
* Work as an effective team member and support continued team development.
* Carry out and record basic observation/test results and report changes to a Registered Nurse (RN).
