Job summary

In line with the forensic service nursing strategy and creating senior clinical development pathways for clinicians, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly driven, passionate, and forward-thinking individual to join our Forensic Service as an Forensic Nurse Specialist (FNS).

This is an exciting time in the development of Specialist Clinical Practice roles, particularly in mental health which is a focus area of the national work being undertaken by Health Education England.

You will contribute to the development of the nursing workforce and be committed to developing and maintaining the professional integrity of the Specialist Clinical Practice role.

The successful applicant will be a registered Mental Health professional with considerable clinical experience, who will develop advanced clinical practice and embed the expert knowledge and skills into a clinical role within the service.

You will work with teams in managing defined episodes of service user care, you will clinically lead on managing improvements in patient care across care pathways and contribute to the development and sustainability of robust clinical governance systems and quality improvement work. You will be a strong clinical role model & leader, inspiring others to deliver safe, effective, and personal care.

This role will specialise on risk management and reduction to support patients in reducing their risk behaviours to aid recovery along their identified pathway.


Main duties of the job

The FNS will be an experienced clinical practitioner with significant post qualifying experience, and either be working at a band 7 level or have significant demonstrable experience at band 7 level, within a band 6 role.

The FNS will act both autonomously and in conjunction with the wider MDT in Assessing, diagnosing, planning, and implementing care; whilst maintaining associated healthcare records within the inpatient/community and prison setting.

You will be expected to offer support and supervision to colleagues and provide specialist advice relevant to your clinical practice and expertise. You will provide clinical advice and leadership appropriate to your professional background and provide profession specific advice and leadership to the wider team.

The FNS sits within the leadership team on Swale Ward and is responsible for delivering safe and effective nursing care across the community-to-community forensic pathway. You will provide direct clinical care, ensuring clinical systems are in place to monitor and support practice and performance whilst supporting the service manager in the operational delivery of the service.

You will be expected to promote a high standard of knowledge and understanding in forensic nursing whilst demonstrating exceptional role modelling when implementing relevant nursing practice within the forensic services.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Knowledge:

* Be a member of a recognised professional body and hold a current NMC registration.
* Highly developed specialist knowledge, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience.
* Educated to Masters Level or Post Graduate advanced clinical/professional qualification or be able to fully demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience.

Experience:

* Evidence of sound post-registration professional practice.
* Demonstrable experience of working in the specific field where the post is held.
* Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area to advanced level of post-graduate diploma or equivalent knowledge /experiential learning.
