You'll be: Leading cloud migrations and designing Azure solutions Running networking and infrastructure projects from scoping to delivery Mentoring engineers who want to learn from someone who actually knows their stuff Working directly with clients to architect solutions that solve real problems Getting hands-on with the latest tech while building something meaningful Whilst also providing hands-on support tickets delivery alongside the other support engineers. One week you're migrating a multi-academy trust to Azure. The next, you're solving a complex networking challenge that's stumped everyone else. That's what makes this interesting. What We Need (Honestly) You must have: Deep Azure experience (administration, design, implementation – not just exposure) Strong networking fundamentals (VLANs, routing, the stuff that trips people up) Solid Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Windows Server knowledge The ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical people Bonus points for: MSP or multi-client experience Microsoft Azure certifications (or working toward them) Education sector experience ITIL framework knowledge Most importantly: You know when to ask questions (that's intelligence, not weakness) You enjoy solving problems, not just applying standard fixes You can work independently but love being part of a team Technology genuinely interests you – you're always learning What You Actually Get Salary & Benefits: £45,000 - £55,000 Plus: Full private medical (including existing conditions!) with option to add family Death in service benefit (12 months' salary) 21 days holiday bank holidays birthday off 1 day per year of service (up to 30 days) All your certifications paid for dedicated learning time Salary increases tied to your development The Real Benefits: Work with a team where people stay 20 years (because they want to, not because they're stuck) Genuine progression opportunities as we grow Mix of office and client site work (variety keeps it interesting) Directors who are hands-on and actually care about your development Free parking (yes, this matters in Wigan) Proper lunch breaks away from your desk About abtec Managed IT, Wigan We've been doing this for 30 years. We're a Microsoft Gold Partner and Crown Commercial Supplier, specialising in education sector clients and cloud solutions. What makes us different? We're not a churn-and-burn MSP. We have engineers who've been here 20 years. We invest in training, we give you time to actually learn, and we create an environment where you can build a proper career. Our clients are mainly schools and academies, plus some private sector businesses. That means real variety, interesting challenges, and the satisfaction of knowing your work directly impacts education. We're ISO certified across five standards, we're growing steadily through referrals and reputation (not just aggressive sales), and we're planning to move to a bigger office in the next couple of years. Stable, growing, and going in the right direction. The Honest Truth About This Role This is a challenging position. We need someone with genuine technical depth who can be the backstop for the team. Some days will be intense. Complex problems, tight deadlines, clients depending on you. But if you're good at what you do, and you want to work somewhere that recognises and develops that, this could be exactly what you're looking for. We've been searching for this person for a while because we refuse to compromise on quality. We'd rather wait for the right person than hire someone who's almost-but-not-quite there. So if you're that person – if you genuinely know Azure, you understand networking fundamentals, and you want to work somewhere you can make a real impact – let's talk.
