Exciting opportunities have arisen for registered immunisers to support the immunisation and vaccination programme in Swansea Bay University Health Board

We are looking for enthusiastic, proactive and motivated individuals with great communication and interpersonal skills to join our immunisation team. You will need to have the ability to multitask, organise your own workload whilst remaining calm under pressure and enjoy a challenge. You will have a caring and compassionate personality and want to make a positive difference.

You will have the necessary skills and knowledge to have discussions with individuals and families on all matters regarding immunisations. You will work in a variety of settings, such as clinic settings, mobile vaccine clinic ‘Immbulance’, domiciliary immunisations, and secondary care for example.

You will need an awareness of the routine and selective immunisation schedule across the life course and be able to work with the immunisation coordinators to answer complex immunisation queries.

As a team we will proactively improve immunisation uptake rates in collaboration with our primary care colleagues, reducing the inequalities that currently exist in our uptake rates and react to any outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases.

Main duties of the job

Safe administration of vaccines by various routes, including intra-dermal techniques

Work in collaboration with health care professionals from primary, and secondary care, in addition to close working relationships with the third sector and trusted voices within our communities.

A high level of communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team. Successful applicants will have responsibility for their allocated vaccination clinics which will be in various settings; ensuring standards are met at all times and will be required to be able to deal with pressure with a positive attitude and possess a professional and flexible approach to their work.

Working hours may include the need to work at weekends/evenings to meet the needs of the service.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Qualified Registered Health Care Professional
2. Develop knowledge and practice in vaccinations ensuring that statutory nursing registration is not compromised and that the relevant professional Code of Conduct is adhered to.

Desirable criteria

3. Knowledge of immunisation schedules in accordance with national recommendations

Experience

Essential criteria

4. Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
5. Practical skills and knowledge of cold chain procedures and medicines management.
6. Evidence of continuous personal and professional development

Aptitude and abilities

Essential criteria

7. An ability to maintain confidentiality and trust.

Desirable criteria

8. Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
