Job Description
We are excited to welcome an enthusiastic Transport Manager to our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring our transport operations run smoothly and efficiently. You will be responsible for the running of our Tanker Operations. You will be required to travel to customer sites within Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and the Midlands. This role is to be located in either Cullompton, Devon or Highbridge, Somerset.
Key Responsibilities:
Transport Operations Management:
Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily transport activities to ensure timely and efficient delivery of services across the South West and Midlands.
Monitor route planning, scheduling, and driver allocation to optimize fleet utilization and reduce operational costs.
Always ensure compliance with transport regulations and internal policies. Fleet Management:
Manage a fleet of 45 specialist tanker vehicles, ensuring all vehicles are roadworthy, compliant, and maintained to the highest standards. These include GRP and vacuum tankers.
Schedule and oversee regular servicing, MOTs, and preventitive maintenance in collaboration with external maintenance providers.
Maintain accurate records of vehicle inspections, repairs, and service history. Driver Management & Development:
Lead a team of 55 drivers, ensuring they are fully trained, compliant, and motivated.
Conduct driver inductions, CPC training updates, and regular performance reviews.
Implement driver debriefs and gate checks to ensure adherence to safety, legal, and operational standards.Compliance & Safety:
Ensure full compliance with transport legislation, including driver hours, tachograph regulations, and Working Time Directive (WTD).
Develop and implement risk assessments and safe systems of work.
Conduct regular audits and inspections to uphold health and safety standards across all operations.Customer Relationship Management:
Act as the primary point of contact for key clients such as South West Water, Manor Vinegar, and Top Blue.
Attend regular customer meetings to review performance, address concerns, and strengthen partnerships.
Provide tailored transport solutions to meet customer-specific requirements.Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
Develop, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to operational efficiency, cost control, and service delivery.
Present performance data and improvement plans to senior management and clients.
Use data insights to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence. Financial Oversight:
Support the Senior Operations Manager in managing budgets and achieving financial targets.
Monitor operational costs, identify savings opportunities, and contribute to annual P&L planning.
Ensure cost-effective use of resources without compromising service quality.Team Leadership & Communication:
Provide clear direction and leadership to Transport Supervisors and frontline staff.
Facilitate regular team meetings to communicate goals, share updates, and encourage collaboration.
Foster a positive and accountable team culture focused on safety, service, and performance.Change & Project Management:
Lead and support change initiatives to improve operational processes and service delivery.
Implement new systems, technologies, or procedures with minimal disruption to operations.
Engage stakeholders and staff to ensure successful adoption of changes.Required Experience:
Qualifications: Must hold international or national CPC qualification and have previous Transport Management experience.
Experience: Experience with Tanker vehicles is essential.
Legal Compliance: Strong understanding of legal compliance, driver's hours, and WTDs.
Customer Relationship Management: Experience in managing customer relationships.
Management Skills: Strong evidence of management skills and making key business decisions.
Team Motivation: Ability to advise and motivate the team to deliver results.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Competitive Salary: £40,000pa to £45,000pa, depending on experience.
Hours: Monday to Friday 08:30-17:00.
