Overview
This role is for a Head of Data Engineering within a financial services client, overseeing the engineering function as the business migrates from on-premises SQL to cloud. The position requires experience managing hybrid/global teams, leading large data engineering projects, and delivering a cloud data warehouse (ideally Azure; AWS considered).
Base pay range
£120,000 to £130,000 base salary + 40% bonus / 40% LTIP + Car + Benefits. Location: Chatham, Kent on a hybrid basis.

Responsibilities
* Lead and develop a high-performing Data Engineering team, setting vision, priorities, and standards.
* Oversee the design, build, and optimisation of data pipelines, ingestion, processing, and storage solutions.
* Embed governance, documentation, and lifecycle management across the function.
* Collaborate with IT, architecture, and business teams to ensure secure, scalable cloud configurations.
* Champion innovation by exploring new tools, technologies, and methods to enhance capability and efficiency.
Core technical requirements
* Experience leading a Data Engineering function comprised of SQL and Azure engineers (circa 40).
* Proven experience in a regulated environment (finance or banking preferred).
* Extensive experience in large, complex data engineering projects with ETL design and development.
* Strong experience in data migration from SQL Server to Azure cloud services.
* Understanding of data regulations such as BCBS239 / IRB is preferred.
