Camcycle is a high-profile local charity that works for more cycling for a better future in and around Cambridge. We have over 1,650 members and a dedicated team of six staff. Our vision is a thriving, sustainable region where more people cycling leads to a better quality of life for all - including those who don’t cycle themselves. Safe, accessible routes and welcoming public spaces give people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds the chance to cycle more of their everyday journeys. In turn, this brings cleaner air, safer streets, and stronger communities for everyone.
About the role
The CEO is responsible for developing and delivering our strategic plan, acting as Camcycle’s lead external advocate and representative, safeguarding and enhancing our reputation managing our staff and volunteers, leading our fundraising, and overseeing our finances and
operations.
The role requires a proven track record of senior leadership in a campaigning organisation, large or small, and a genuine passion for the benefits of sustainable travel.
Responsibilities include:
* Provide leadership by example, living the values of the charity and engendering a positive, open and highly supportive working environment. Champion a ‘can do’ culture across the charity.
* Oversee the day-to-day management of all areas of the charity, working cohesively with the team.
* Ensure staff recruitment, management, training, and development are aligned with the charity's objectives, and support staff well-being. This includes developing appropriate policies consistent with the charity’s nature and values.
* Enable the Board to fulfil its duties and responsibilities for proper governance of the charity, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, including the requirements of the Charities Commission
* Oversee the development and delivery of communications, engagement, and events strategies in line with Camcycle’s objectives. Represent Camcycle in the media.
* Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, media outlets, and community groups, to promote the organisation's mission and influence policy and public opinion. Act in an apolitical manner at all times.
Person Specification to include:
* Proven leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, coach and inspire others.
* Passionate about cycling and committed to choosing to travel locally by cycle and public transport.
* Strong advocate for the benefits of sustainable travel
* Proven track record of achievement in a strategic leadership role in a not-for-profit or public sector organisation.
* Experience of working with a Board of Trustees or equivalent governing body.
* Experience of managing staff and volunteers to achieve individual and organisational goals.
* Passionate, innovative and entrepreneurial thinker.
