McLean Hospital Patient Care Technician Job Description
McLean Hospital, a leading psychiatric hospital in the Boston area, is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join our multidisciplinary team. Since 1811, McLean has been dedicated to providing high-quality mental health services, research, and training.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct patient care through individual and group counseling in accordance with treatment plans.
2. Document patient interactions clearly and promptly, including encounter forms and shift notes.
3. Establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, respecting boundaries.
4. Participate in patient rounds and team meetings as per program guidelines.
5. Assist in managing complex patient situations and intervene as necessary.
6. Lead and co-lead patient groups and supervise community activities, including transportation when required.
7. Follow program policies, protocols, and procedures, including medication supervision and documentation.
8. Support nursing staff in medication management and patient activities of daily living.
9. Assess sleep patterns and assist patients in developing appropriate sleep routines.
10. Assist patients in maintaining appointments and developing self-care skills.
11. Maintain professional growth by completing mandatory training and seeking supervision for development.
12. Participate in rounds and case conferences as appropriate.
Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
* No experience required; one year of patient care experience preferred, especially in psychiatric settings.
* Skills in communication and collaboration.
* Driver’s license preferred (depending on program) and ability to meet hospital driving standards.
* Medication Administration Program Certification (for specific programs) required within a specified timeframe; all employees must complete electronic medical records training with at least 80% accuracy within 30 days of hire.
