We are seeking candidates with excellent communication skills, a desire to learn, and a passion for development and improvement. Previous theatre experience is welcome, along with experience from other acute hospital settings. If you are enthusiastic, motivated, and looking to join a dynamic team of dedicated staff, this unique opportunity at Ashford and St Peters NHS Foundation Trust could be for you!
Ashford Hospital operates as a dedicated Elective Centre with advanced facilities designed for efficient, high-quality care. The site includes eight theatres—six with laminar airflow systems—and a 13-bed recovery suite. The department also features two specialist ophthalmic theatres and two day surgery theatres with a dedicated three-bed recovery area.
Full training and support will be provided, along with numerous opportunities for career progression. Informal visits are welcome; please contact Ashford Matron Tom D'Souza at [email protected] to arrange a visit. The successful candidate will work as part of a team to provide a safe, cost-effective, and efficient care environment for patients, relatives, and carers.
You will be expected to function clinically within the Operating Department, carrying out circulating roles and other theatre duties, excluding scrubbing. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are vital when interacting with all levels of staff, patients, and relatives, considering impairments, levels of consciousness, and language barriers.
You will need to adhere to local policies, guidelines, and SOPs to maintain high standards of care. Rotation in Day Surgery Admissions and Discharge areas is also part of the role. Under the supervision of registered practitioners, you will:
1. Develop knowledge of surgical specialties and instrument requirements to support team members.
2. Learn and adapt skills to the theatre environment.
3. Support the safe use of theatre equipment, ensuring compliance with trust and theatre guidelines.
4. Extend knowledge through rotation to other specialties.
5. Report incidents and ensure remedial actions are taken to prevent recurrence.
6. Keep up to date with equipment and procedural updates, demonstrating a personal duty of care.
7. Follow infection control practices rigorously, including hand hygiene and universal precautions.
8. Understand and adhere to theatre standards related to patient safety, including swab counts, electrosurgery, specimen handling, and infection prevention.
9. Support patient positioning and care under the guidance of registered staff, understanding specific surgical requirements.
