About The Role As a Database Engineer, you’ll play a hands-on role providing 2nd line support for SQL Server environments (2008–2022) in a fast-paced MSP setting. You’ll investigate and resolve issues, optimise performance, and support critical systems – all while continuing to develop your skills in cloud platforms, automation, and monitoring technologies. You will: Support and manage SQL Server databases throughout the full lifecycle. Configure, maintain, and monitor SQL Servers to ensure performance, availability, and security Troubleshoot performance and reliability issues; manage backups, restores, and recovery models. Help improve internal processes through automation and documentation. Participate in an out-of-hours support rota (with additional compensation). Collaborate with highly skilled DBA colleagues to expand your knowledge and skill set. What will you bring? Essential Experience: Strong experience in SQL Server Administration (on-premises, versions 2008–2022). Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and support databases in a managed service environment. Solid understanding of T-SQL, stored procedures, views, indexes, and performance tuning. Experience with monitoring tools, high availability, and disaster recovery. A collaborative mindset with strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to juggle multiple tasks/projects and contribute to out-of-hours support when needed. Desirable Skills: Familiarity with ITIL-based service desk processes (incident/problem management). Exposure to Microsoft Azure (Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, SQL IaaS). Scripting with PowerShell and experience using GitHub. Use of Power BI for reporting. Any knowledge of other database platforms such as Oracle, Couchbase, or MySQL is a plus. What can we offer you?
