Facilities Support Worker (Transport and Portering)
Closing date: 03 November 2025
37.5 hours per week covering shifts 5 over 7 days to include weekends and bank holidays. There will be a requirement to work night shifts to cover annual leave.
The Facilities Support Worker is an important member of the team who helps provide a range of duties across the Trust in a professional manner.
We are looking to recruit a hardworking and enthusiastic individual to join our Portering and Transport team based at Kendray Hospital. The Facilities Support Worker roles are part of a team working within an integrated Facilities Services department, offering a high quality, flexible and customer‑focused service.

Key Result Areas
* General Duties
o Ensure that the daily collection and delivery of mail is carried out as scheduled.
o Sort mail and ensure it is transported to its destination in the shortest possible time.
o Collect items from Pharmacy and deliver to Trust premises as required.
o Collect and deliver specimens to and from Trust premises and Pathology as required.
o Obtain proof of receipt when required from service users following delivery.
o Deliver, remove or transfer equipment from/to between Trust premises.
o Deliver stores to all villas and ward areas.
o Deliver food to villas and ward areas.
* Security Duties
o Secure buildings and property as required.
o Ensure security of keys is maintained in the porters lodge.
o Undertake regular security checks of premises during silent hours.
o Reset burglar alarms and advise the Portering / Transport Manager.
o Liaise with the security department as and when required.
o Monitor CCTVequipment and act appropriately when required.
* Linen / Refuse Collections and Deliveries
o Collect dirty linen / rubbish from wards, departments and community premises.
o Dispose of cytotoxic waste adhering to DoE guidelines ensuring collection.
* Maintenance
o Assist in the maintenance of Trust properties and services.
o Carry out planned maintenance work:
+ Fire alarm panels monitor and reset.
+ Maintenance checks of Trust vehicles and completion of paperwork (oil, water, tyres, lights etc).
+ Washing of Trust vehicles.
+ Clearing of road gullies and gutters.
+ Cleanliness of Trust grounds, removal of rubbish, sweeping etc.
+ Monitor and record fridge / freezer temperatures.
o Carry out repairs / new work as the job indicates:
+ Install notice boards, shelving, pictures, paper towel dispensers, soap dispensers, etc.
+ Board up windows.
+ Basic plumbing tasks – replace pipe wastes, ball valves, plug tops.
+ Clean light fittings and re‑lamp.
+ Check external lighting and replace where necessary.
+ Reset the gas boiler when required.
o Ensure all pavements, roads and patient areas are safe during inclement weather (e.g., gritting).
o Advise the Portering / Transport Manager of any defects for repair.
o Assist in general gardening duties as required.
o Carry out any other reasonable tasks as instructed by the Portering / Transport Manager.
* Report accidents / incidents immediately and in accordance with Trust policy.
* Be courteous and polite at all times to service users and provide a friendly, efficient service.
* Work closely with Ward Managers and patients, understanding their needs while carrying out duties.
* Establish good working relationships with all points of contact with facilities users, ensuring they are kept informed about the progress of work as required.
* Drive hospital vehicles and plant vehicles as required (not HGV).
* Operate such vehicles in a reasonable manner, complying with all current road traffic regulations.
* Take reasonable precautions when handling Trust property.
* Work at any Trust property as instructed by the Portering / Transport Manager.
* Be prepared to work overtime or change working hours if service demands dictate.
* Maintain and develop existing skills, receiving training in new skills as required.
* Use safety and protective clothing and equipment appropriately, as required by health and safety legislation.
* Read, understand and apply safety guidance notes, hazard letters, fire instructions and other documents issued by the Portering / Transport Manager.
* Ensure duties are carried out in accordance with best practice risk management.
