GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and resilient Mental Health Teaching Assistant (Mental Health TA) to join a supportive school in Wareham. This is a full-time, permanent role, perfect for someone with experience in pastoral care, youth work, or mental health support.
About the Role:
As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to support students experiencing social, emotional, or mental health challenges. You will help build confidence, encourage positive behaviour, and support emotional well-being both in and out of the classroom.
Your Responsibilities as a Mental Health TA:
* Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with mental health needs.
* Help students regulate their emotions and build coping strategies.
* Liaise with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies to implement personalised support plans.
* Create a calm, safe environment conducive to learning.
* Support learning activities under the guidance of the class teacher.
* Encourage and promote inclusion, independence, and emotional resilience.
* Monitor progress and maintain accurate records of student engagement and development.
Mental Health Teaching Assistant Requirements:
* Experience working with children or young people with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs as a Mental Health Teaching Assistant.
* A relevant qualification in education, mental health, or youth support is desirable.
* CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or Childcare
* A patient, nurturing, and understanding approach.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
* Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle challenging behaviours constructively.
