Library Assistant and Community Outreach Co-Ordinator

St Agnes Parish Council is seeking an enthusiastic, proactive, and community-focused individual to join our Library Team to deliver high-quality library services and engaging outreach activities across the Parish. This varied role is based both on-site at St Agnes Library and out in the community, visiting schools, nurseries, youth groups, care homes, and other venues to promote a love of reading and widen access to library services in line with our Youth Strategy.
You will:
· Provide a welcoming, customer-focused service at the library, supporting the Universal Library Offer (reading, health, information, and digital access) and assisting with resources, payment processing, and information provision.
· Promote literacy and lifelong learning in line with the Council's Youth Strategy, working with schools, nurseries, youth groups, care homes, and other local organisations to foster a love of reading and increase engagement with library services.
· Deliver engaging reading sessions, events, and pop-up activities in the library, community venues, and care settings, as well as organising and hosting group visits to the library.
· Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners to strengthen outreach and participation.
We are looking for someone who:
* Is flexible, well-organised, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
* Is enthusiastic, approachable, and confident engaging with people of all ages, particularly children and young people.
* Has experience in customer-facing roles and in working with schools, youth groups, or community organisations.
* Brings creativity to planning and delivering activities and events, with excellent communication, presentation, and organisational skills to manage multiple priorities.
* Has good IT skills (including Microsoft Office) and can quickly learn bespoke systems.
* Understands safeguarding and data protection (UK GDPR).
* Holds a full driving licence and is willing to travel throughout the Parish.
Annual leave entitlement is 23 days (pro rata) plus two extra statutory days. The post-holder must be available to cover leave for colleagues from time to time and work some evenings and weekends. The Council is part of the Local Government Pension Scheme (Cornwall Pension Fund – employer contribution currently 19.6%) and all its employees are entitled to join. The position has automatic annual pay increases.
