The Impact: As an Emissions Researcher, you will be integral to the dynamic Vantage Asset Valuation team at S&P Global. Your expertise will elevate our research and analysis of global upstream emissions, addressing the diverse needs of our customers in the upstream and ESG sectors. This position is essential for advancing energy transition initiatives within S&P Global Commodity Insights. What’s in it for you: By working alongside an exciting global team of experienced researchers, engineers, and economists, you will become a subject matter expert on upstream greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. You will be at the cutting edge of knowledge for the upstream energy transition, putting you in a position to affect change, drive exciting new projects and become a key contact for GHG emissions in your region, for both internal and external customers. Responsibilities: Contribute to the research, development, and population of a world leading emissions model for onshore and offshore oil and gas assets globally. Provide research to help build and maintain S&P Global’s comprehensive database of emissions related data for all upstream oil and gas assets and the various sources of GHGs. Work in close co-operation with colleagues and product management teams to help define what type of results and analysis customers want to see. Contribute to the continual development of our GHG emissions related products and their relevant functionalities. Support an exacting customer base by responding to questions of various complexity in assigned geographical regions and by providing deep subject matter expertise, timely insight, and good judgement. Use the latest tools and techniques to enhance the breadth and depth of our upstream GHG emissions data offering. Continuously develop expertise in a particular/designated practice or focus area and expand knowledge into related fields. Stay abreast of current/hot topics and contribute to written/published products to broaden and build upon subject matter knowledge. What We’re Looking For: Educational background: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific, engineering, or quantitative discipline. Industry expertise: In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in upstream oil and gas emissions, including emissions estimation and related activities. Energy transition insight: A comprehensive understanding of the energy transition landscape, focusing on technological advancements, carbon abatement strategies, and regulatory frameworks. Analytical skills: Strong numerical and analytical capabilities, with expert proficiency in data collection, transformation, modeling, and analysis. Data management: Proven ability to work with large, complex datasets effectively. Technical proficiency: Advanced user of MS Excel and Power BI (or similar data visualization tools). Data science proficiency: Familiarity with data science techniques, relevant software, and proficiency in Python programming. Remote sensing experience: Experience with remote sensing data is a plus. AI utilization: Ability to leverage generative AI tools to enhance workflow efficiency and create new sources of value. Asset valuation experience: Solid understanding of discounted cash flow modeling and the essential inputs for oil and gas asset valuation. Professional experience: Significant experience in a similar role within an oil and gas operator, consulting firm, advisory service, or financial institution. Regional experience : Detailed knowledge of Africa's oil and gas sector and experience working in the region would be beneficial. Soft skills: A proactive learner with a strong ambition to grow, demonstrate creativity in problem-solving, and excel in collaborative environments, fostering teamwork and open communication.
