Isabel Hospice provides exceptional palliative care and support to people living with life-limiting conditions across eastern Hertfordshire. We are looking for dedicated individuals to join our Board of Trustees and help shape the future of this vital organisation. Our Trustees play a crucial leadership role, setting the strategic direction of the Hospice, safeguarding its mission, and ensuring the organisation is run effectively, legally, and sustainably. Trustees work closely with the Executive Team but do not get involved in the day-to-day management. As a Trustee, you will: Provide strategic guidance and ensure the Hospice remains focused on its charitable objectives. Safeguard the Hospice’s reputation, values, financial health, and assets. Monitor the performance of the Hospice and its Chief Executive. Use your professional expertise to support decision-making and add value. Act as an ambassador for the Hospice, promoting its work within the community. What we’re looking for: We welcome applications from individuals with a passion for the Hospice’s mission and a commitment to public service. You do not need previous Board experience. We are particularly keen to hear from those with experience in: Entrepreneurship & Business Development Clinical Skills & qualities: Strategic thinking and good judgement Willingness to speak openly, listen actively, and work as part of a team Ability to analyse complex information and offer clear guidance Enthusiasm for the work of the Hospice and a desire to make a positive impact Commitment to the principles of integrity, openness, and accountability Time Commitment: Attend quarterly Board meetings (usually weekday evenings, face-to-face) Participate in two Board Committees or Trading Subsidiary Boards remotely Attend annual strategic planning sessions (face-to-face) Visit Hospice services, charity shops, and events periodically Act as an ambassador, occasionally attending functions or cheque presentations Prepare for meetings by reading Board papers in advance Trustees are initially appointed for three years, with the opportunity to serve a second term.
