Overview

Role: Team Leader - Teaching Assistants

Location: Bedford College - Cauldwell Street Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £28,325 and £33,231 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week - 40 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent - Term Time

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant Team Leader to join our Additional Support department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Team Leader, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

* TA Management & Development - Line manages Teaching Assistants across college, overseeing appraisals, mentoring, probation reviews, interviews, and performance management in collaboration with curriculum leads.
* Student Support Coordination - Ensures students’ learning needs are met through Individual Support Plans, effective TA deployment, and regular review of in-class support to promote independence and achievement.
* Operational Oversight - Manages cover arrangements, EHCP review attendance, lunch breaks, and monitors support data to ensure efficient and responsive TA scheduling across sites
* Collaboration & Communication - Works closely with tutors, curriculum managers, and pastoral leads to align TA roles, share key information, and support robust training programmes for support staff.
* Compliance & College Engagement - Upholds safeguarding, EDI, and health & safety standards, participates in training and development, attends meetings, and contributes to wider college functions and reputation.

About you:

* Essential Qualifications & Experience - Holds Level 2 English and Maths, with a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management (or willingness to achieve), and recent experience supporting individuals in education and managing large teams across multiple sites.
* Specialist Knowledge & Skills - Experienced in working with students with diverse learning needs and abilities across vocational contexts, with strong administrative skills and the ability to manage budgets and maintain accurate records.
* Professional Competencies - Demonstrates excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills, consistently meets deadlines, and works effectively both independently and collaboratively.
* Values & Attitudes - Committed to safeguarding, equality, and promoting the college’s reputation, with a sensitive and respectful approach to individual needs and professional relationships.
* Flexibility & Development - Willing to work across all sites, adapt to changing work patterns, travel as needed, and engage in ongoing professional development to support student welfare and success.

About The Bedford College Group

The Bedford College Group was formed in 2017 following the merger of Bedford College and Tresham College and is now the largest provider of education in the South East Midlands, with over 15,000 students passing through our doors each year.

Today, the Group is made up of a family of colleges across Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire: Bedford College, Central Bedfordshire College and Tresham College in the towns of Bedford, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough; Shuttleworth College, a specialist land-based college; The Bedford Sixth Form, (the only dedicated sixth form in Bedford); The Corby Sixth Form, (opened in September 2023); and the National College for Motorsport alongside Silverstone race circuit.
