Offer description

Role Overview: QA Tester

Pocket Sized Hands is seeking a QA Tester to join our growing team to work on amazing titles with well-known IPs such as "Rick and Morty", "Oddworld" and "Bendy and the Ink Machine".

As one of our team members, you will be part of a diverse and innovative group of people that values creativity, collaboration, and technical excellence.

QA Testers at Pockets play a critical role in protecting the quality of our games and the experience of our players. You are embedded within our project teams and work closely with engineering, production, art & design to help them make good decisions around quality and risk and take responsibility for focusing test effort where it matters most.

This role is not just about finding bugs. Our QA team use their own judgement and experience to ensure that the right things are being tested at the right time. You are comfortable working through ambiguity and raising concerns early. You will also be deeply involved in conversations about project scope, priorities and delivery bringing pragmatism and QA perspective.

Key Responsibilities:

• Test games across all platforms with a focus on risk, player experience, and impact, not just coverage.

• Identify, reproduce, and clearly document defects, including steps to reproduce, expected behaviour, and relevant context.

• Use good judgement to prioritise issues and testing effort based on severity, likelihood, and stage of development.

• Communicate clearly with production, engineering, art and design to surface risks, assumptions, dependencies, and trade-offs as early as possible.

• Contribute to planning and review conversations by offering a quality perspective that helps teams make realistic and robust plans.

• Work with the team to improve QA practices, tools, and workflows in ways that are proportionate and appropriate for the size of the studio and our projects.

• Track and manage issues using tools such as Jira, instilling good practice and demonstrating clarity, and follow-through.

• Collaborate with the wider team in a way that builds trust, shared ownership, and confidence in our approach to quality in everything we produce.

Core Competencies

Drive & Delivery

Shows consistency and follow-through in testing and reporting. Takes responsibility for surfacing issues and seeing them through to resolution.

Domain Expertise

Brings practical QA experience from games or software development. Understands different platforms, development stages, and common failure modes.

Communication & Engagement

Communicates clearly, calmly, and constructively. Comfortable raising concerns and asking difficult questions without creating friction or drama.

Quality & Execution

Applies care and attention to detail while keeping a clear view of context and impact. Focuses on what will most improve the player experience.

Leadership

Leads through behaviour and judgement, not authority. Supports others in thinking about quality and helps raise the bar through collaboration and influencing decision making.

Living Our Values in This Role

• You speak up early when something doesn't feel right, and you do it in a way that helps the team act rather than panic.

• You're thoughtful about quality, but pragmatic about context. You understand that not everything needs the same level of rigour at the same time.

• You treat people with respect, even when conversations are difficult or opinions differ.

• You stay focused on outcomes, not just process, and help the team identify and focus on what will make the biggest difference to our players.

• You're open to learning and feedback, and you actively look for ways to improve how you work over time.

A note on progression:

We are a small studio and value people who grow with us. For the right person, there is clear scope to take on more responsibility and influence over time. Progression, including changes in title and remuneration, is based on impact, judgement, and the needs of the studio as it evolves.

Benefits:

• Flexible working hours (start between 8am-10am, finish 4pm-6pm)

• Company pension scheme

• 28 days holiday, increasing yearly to a maximum of 33 days (pro-rata)

• Private medical insurance – including optical/dental cashback, mental health support & worldwide travel cover
