Cleaner
Location: Inverness Drummond Special Needs School
Salary: £21,654.50 per annum prorated
Permanent term time – Part time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday3.30pm – 10.30pm
The cleaner will ensure the cleanliness, hygiene, and safety of all assigned buildings and grounds, keeping the site secure and locked at night. Responsibilities include cleaning corridors, offices, and communal areas to a high standard, completing routine and deep-cleaning tasks, safely operating cleaning equipment, replenishing supplies, and disposing of waste correctly. The role also involves supporting infection control, reporting hazards or maintenance issues, securely handling keys, assisting with room setups, and responding promptly to urgent cleaning requests. The successful candidate will work independently or as part of a team, follow health and safety guidelines including COSHH, communicate professionally, maintain confidentiality, and uphold the organisation’s values while demonstrating reliability and a strong work ethic.
Role Criteria:
1. Ensure the cleanliness, hygiene, and safety of all assigned buildings and surrounding grounds
2. Ensure the building is secure and locked at night
3. Clean the schools corridors, offices, and communal areas to a high standard
4. Perform routine cleaning tasks such as hoovering, mopping, dusting, and sanitising surfaces
5. Operate cleaning machinery and equipment safely and effectively (e.g. floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners)
6. Replenish cleaning supplies, soap dispensers, toilet rolls, and paper towels as needed
7. Dispose of waste and recycling in accordance with site procedures and environmental standards
8. Report any maintenance issues, hazards, or damage to the supervisor promptly
9. Follow cleaning schedules and specifications set by the supervisor or site manager
10. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including COSHH guidelines
11. Carry out deep cleaning tasks
12. Maintain secure handling of keys and access to restricted areas
13. Support infection control measures, especially in high-traffic or sensitive areas
14. Assist with setting up rooms or spaces for school events or meetings when required
15. Respond to urgent cleaning requests or spillages in a timely and professional manner
16. Wear appropriate PPE and maintain a clean and professional appearance
17. Work independently or as part of a team to meet daily cleaning targets
18. Demonstrate punctuality, reliability, and a strong work ethic
19. Communicate effectively with staff, students, and visitors when necessary
20. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism within the environment
21. Participate in training sessions and toolbox talks as required
22. Uphold the values and standards of the organisation at all times
