Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated person to work in our Installations Team in Yorkshire on hazardous waste and waste classification. Our EPR Installations can produce, handle, and receive large volumes of hazardous waste. It is important that these wastes are classified and described correctly to prevent environmental impacts and financial loss. Misdescription of wastes can lead to environmental harm and lost income for the EA.
You will be recognized as the Installations Hazardous Waste Technical Lead, overseeing hazardous waste regulatory delivery, contributing to the development and delivery of the hazardous waste regime delivery plan, and reporting on performance. Your focus will be on hazardous waste and waste classification compliance activities related to EPR Installations. You will review waste classification assessments in accordance with Technical Guidance WM3 to ensure proper classification of waste produced and received at Installations.
Responding to incidents is a central part of our work. All team members are required to undertake training and participate in incident response activities. Additional payments may be available for this work, and full training will be provided. Please see the candidate pack for more information.
The team
The post is based in the Installations Team in Yorkshire, at any of the offices in Leeds, Rotherham, York, or Beverley. The team works flexibly across the area, regulating sites in sectors including chemicals manufacturing, landfill, incineration, food and drink, and textiles.
Experience/skills Required
* Strong operational/technical knowledge of the Hazardous Waste regime.
* Good understanding of hazardous waste compliance, Technical Guidance WM3, and the Hazardous Waste Regulations.
* Ability to handle complex situations pragmatically to achieve environmental outcomes.
* Effective workload management, independence, self-motivation, and ability to meet reporting requirements.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to provide technical leadership.
* Teamwork skills to support colleagues in achieving goals.
* Preferably a degree or equivalent in a scientific, environmental, or engineering discipline, and membership of a relevant professional organization.
