RN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL OFFICERS (ATCOs) Controllers are to operate iaw Military Aviation Authority (MAA) Air Traffic Management (ATM) Regulatory Articles. At all times, ATCOs are responsible for the accuracy and safety of the ATC instructions they pass. ATCOs are to: Ensure that they are fully conversant with the latest promulgated orders, instructions, notices and signals with particular reference to the aerodrome and its facilities. Be fully briefed regarding the weather situation and tendencies for the period of their watch. Ensure that they have a full understanding of the air traffic situation prevailing prior to taking over a control position. Remain in the control room to act as an assistant or adviser to the controller who has assumed responsibility, unless they are permitted to leave by that controller. Remain current and in date for all ATC Medical, Professional Knowledge Checks, Standards Checks, Safety Management training and any mandatory Core Military Training iaw Regulatory and Local Orders. Manage all information appropriately and in accordance with JSP 441 – Information, Knowledge, Digital and Data in Defence. Report or provide comment on any incidents, occurrences or hazard observations via the DASOR system. Whilst undertaking any administrative tasks or secondary duties allocated by OC ATC or XO ATC, controllers are to manage all information appropriately and iaw JSP 441 – Information, Knowledge, Digital and Data in Defence. The RN ATCO is: Accountable to the OC ATC. Under the functional authority of the XO ATC. Authority To conduct ATM Controlling Duties. Organisation RN ATCOs fall within the organisational structure of the ATC Unit at which they are assigned.
