Location: Teignbridge District Council
Remuneration: £250 per meeting (minimum 4 meetings per annum)
Term: Fixed term of 2-3 years (pending Local Government Re-organisation)

Make a Difference in Local Government
Teignbridge District Council is seeking and independent member to join its Audit Scrutiny Committee. This cross-party committee comprising of 8 members, provides a high-level focus on the adequacy of governance, risk, finance and control arrangements across the Council. It meets at least four times a year, in person, at the Council’s Forde House Offices in Newton Abbot. Meetings typically last 2-3 hours and agenda items for consideration are provided at least five working days in advance. Your role will involve assisting the committee in reviewing financial statements, monitoring audit activities, and promoting high standards of conduct and governance among councillors.
Applications are invited from individuals with professional experience of a large organisation, preferably as a senior manager or a member of an audit committee or similar board or governance body. You will also appreciate the importance of accountability and probity in public life.

Key responsibilities:
* Review the annual statement of accounts and annual governance statement.
* Help oversee the council’s risk management, internal control, and financial reporting processes.
* Review internal and external audit plans and reports.
* Review counter fraud arrangements.
* Support the council in maintaining high standards of financial integrity and governance.
* Participate in committee meetings and relevant training sessions.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking someone with:
* Experience in the financial or general management with knowledge of audit, finance, risk management, and governance.
* Strong analytical and communication skills.
* A commitment to public service and ethical standards.
* The ability to challenge constructively and work collaboratively.
* Previous experience on a board or committee is desirable but not essential.
