ENGLISH TEACHER Location: Aylesbury Start: September 2026 Full Time: Temporary to Permanent Salary: £29,344–£44,919 Most lessons don’t fail loudly. They fail quietly — when students nod but don’t understand, when writing lacks structure, when ideas never quite reach clarity. This role exists to fix that. As a Secondary English Teacher, you are not just delivering content. You are shaping how students read, write, and think across KS3 and KS4. Every lesson is an opportunity to build clarity, confidence, and control over language. What happens in your classroom is deliberate. Students are shown how to read a text properly. They are given structures for writing, not left to guess. They are corrected, guided, and supported until improvement becomes visible. Your day-to-day responsibilities You will teach both English Language and Literature across KS3 and KS4 You will break down reading and writing into clear, teachable steps You will model how strong answers look and why they work You will address misconceptions early rather than allowing them to develop You will plan lessons that build skills over time, not just cover content You will give feedback that students can actually use to improve You will maintain calm, focused lessons where expectations are clear The classroom you create Students understand what is expected of them Writing improves because it is taught, not assumed Lessons feel structured and purposeful Behaviour improves because routines are consistent The kind of teacher who does well here Someone who explains things clearly, more than once if needed Someone who values structure over improvisation Someone who sees literacy as a skill, not just a subject Someone who is calm, consistent, and firm without being confrontational Requirements Experience teaching or strong subject knowledge in English Confidence teaching KS3 and KS4QTS is desirable; unqualified teachers are welcome to apply, particularly candidates with strong English or humanities backgrounds This is a role where teaching is taken seriously, progress is expected, and students benefit from clarity every single lesson.
