About the Role We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Maintenance Team Leader to supervise and support engineering activities within a busy manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Engineering lead, you will lead a skilled multi-disciplinary maintenance team, ensuring the smooth running of planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This role offers the opportunity to influence team performance, uphold health and safety standards, and directly impact operational success through effective leadership and technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities Lead and motivate a multi-skilled maintenance team, balancing practical hands-on work with team management (approx. 80% practical, 20% office-based).
Prioritise and delegate daily maintenance tasks, managing both reactive and preventative maintenance activities.
Maintain high standards of plant safety and promote adherence to safety protocols.
Communicate effectively with site leadership and cross-functional teams to escalate and resolve production and engineering issues.
Write clear and concise shift handovers to ensure seamless communication between teams.
Coordinate workplace organisation and support continuous improvement projects in collaboration with Engineering Management.
Coach and mentor maintenance engineers and apprentices, identifying training needs and developing succession plans.
Oversee contractor supervision, permit writing, and site inductions.
Drive Health & Safety and Environmental initiatives within the site.
Use digital maintenance planning software to manage schedules and drive operational improvements.
Candidate Profile Qualifications & Skills:
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Engineering / Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship
Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing equipment
Proven leadership and team management skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital maintenance software
Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement methodologies
Strong communication and organisational skills
Ability to work flexibly to meet business needs
Desirable:
ILM Level 3 Management or Leadership qualification
Previous experience leading a team in a manufacturing environment
