VMA GROUP’s client, a values-led healthcare organisation, is seeking a Head of Marketing, Communications and Engagement to lead the development and delivery of a bold, multi-stakeholder communications strategy.
This strategic and hands-on leadership role is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments and wants to shape organisational communication during NHS transformation. The successful candidate will have expertise in stakeholder engagement, internal and external communications, digital strategy, and team leadership.
We are looking for an immediately available Head of Healthcare communications, willing to work in-office at least 3 days a week.
The Opportunity
This role is crucial in fostering a modern, inclusive approach to communications, emphasizing collaboration, clarity, and community. As services move toward integrated, neighbourhood-focused care, the Head will ensure messaging aligns with system-wide changes and resonates with NHS partners, GPs, staff, and patients.
The role requires someone who can link strategic thinking with operational execution, managing a small team and building strong internal and external partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Brand Management
* Develop a compelling brand and communication strategy aligned with organisational goals.
* Translate complex service developments into clear messages for diverse audiences.
* Act as a brand guardian, maintaining consistency across channels.
* Highlight achievements through storytelling, media relations, and awards.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communications
* Build relationships with internal teams, GPs, NHS partners, patient groups, and the healthcare ecosystem.
* Develop and maintain CRM and engagement frameworks for tailored communication.
* Plan inclusive engagement activities supporting service transformation.
* Oversee media relations, crisis communication, and PR.
* Coordinate with HR and leadership for staff communications that are timely, inclusive, and aligned with values.
* Manage digital channels like website, intranet, and social media.
* Ensure content is relevant, high-quality, and audience-centered.
* Innovate in digital communication and utilize analytics to enhance reach.
* Plan and execute campaigns, including health awareness and social marketing initiatives.
* Monitor and evaluate campaign effectiveness with KPIs.
Team Leadership & Operational Oversight
* Lead and support a small communications team, fostering collaboration and high performance.
* Ensure quality and timely delivery of communication outputs.
Monitoring & Evaluation
* Use tools and metrics to assess communication effectiveness.
* Report progress and risks to senior leaders and governance bodies.
* Adjust strategy based on data and feedback.
