Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust offers a Senior Clinical Perfusion Scientist role within the Cardiovascular and Thoracic care group. The position supports a busy cardiac and congenital cardiac surgery service with a 37.5‑hour, 3‑day working week.
Main Responsibilities
* Deliver safe and effective perfusion support for adult cardiac surgical procedures, including cell salvage, point‑of‑care blood analysis, DHCA, and ECMO.
* Assist with paediatric and ACHD procedures where required.
* Participate fully in the department on‑call rota and perform associated administrative duties.
* Work collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary team to ensure high quality patient care.
Requirements
Essential Criteria
* Accreditation by the Society of Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland.
* Full registration with the College of Clinical Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland.
* MSc in Clinical Perfusion Science or equivalent experience.
* Comprehensive knowledge of adult cardiopulmonary bypass procedures and associated techniques.
* Expertise in specialist perfusion procedures such as left‑heart bypass, antegrade and retrograde cerebral perfusion, vacuum‑assisted venous drainage, ventricular assist devices, and blood‑conservation techniques.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience in neonatal, paediatric, and GUCH perfusion.
* Paediatric perfusion experience.
* Completion of a paediatric ECMO training course.
