Overview
This post has arisen to maintain and support the development and expansion of service in Diagnostic Neuroradiology within the Trust. Based in our Radiology Department – Royal Preston Hospital / Chorley District General Hospital – it is a permanent role that offers an opportunity to join our regional neurosciences centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria. The adult Neurology department is staffed by 12 consultant neurologists, with 2 paediatric neurologists linked to Central Manchester Children’s Hospital. The Neurosurgery department provides a comprehensive adult neurosurgical service with 12 consultant neurosurgeons.
Responsibilities
* Provide a comprehensive diagnostic neuroradiology service and support the 9 existing neuroradiologists (4 of whom perform neuro‑intervention) and 2 head and neck radiologists.
* Play an active role in the planning, development and delivery of the neuro‑radiology service for the Directorate and its associated network, including teaching SPRs who rotate through attachments within the Trust.
* Support diagnostic neuroradiology colleagues in both IP and OP MRI/CT reporting and work closely with colleagues in the wider neurosciences and radiology department.
* Have a subspecialist interest in Head & Neck radiology; report cross‑sectional head and neck imaging, participate in the network thyroid and head & neck cancer MDTs and perform neck ultrasound and FNAs/core biopsies.
* Possess an interest in PET‑CT; this would be supported.
* Provide support for local and network neuroradiology MDTs.
* Participate in a neuroradiology on‑call rota with a 1:9 frequency.
There are also substantial opportunities for development or maintenance of other subspecialist interests. Experience in head and neck radiology and advanced neuro‑imaging techniques is highly desirable.
Radiology Directorate
The Radiology Directorate comprises Radiology, Neuroradiology, Ultrasound, Vascular (general) Interventional Radiology, Chest Radiology, Nuclear Medicine (including SPECT scanning) and Oncological Radiology. Mammography is performed at the Chorley and South Ribble Hospital site, and additional scanning and service provision are also provided at our Preston Healthport site.
