Highly Specialist Practitioner Psychologist - IBPS

8A Practitioner Psychologist (0.7 WTE)

We are excited to advertise this post that will join a small, but experienced, team of practitioner psychologists providing the NHS-funded Infected Blood Psychological Services (Greater Manchester). The post will be based within the Haematology department at Manchester Royal Infirmary. The role is suitable for applicants with previous experience of working within physical health settings such as a medical or surgical MDT (Haematology or HIV).

Responsibilities

* Form and sustain good and collaborative working relationships, using skills for formulation to help inform patient care, as well as the MDT approach.
* Work flexibly and creatively with physical complexity, aligning therapeutic approach with other disciplines.
* Provide direct and indirect working, contributing directly into particular difficulties faced by groups of patients within the service.
* Communicate and inform care beyond the immediate MDT to support patients in their pathways with other services (including mental health services) due to physical complexity/comorbidities.
* Participate in service evaluation/audit/research, in partnership with regional/national IBPS approaches.
* Attend and contribute to in-house teaching/education sessions.
* Involve in scoping and developing psychological care for other aspects of haematological work within the department (e.g., gene therapy).

Qualifications

* Professional qualification in Clinical/Counselling Psychology at doctoral level (or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) accredited by the BPS.
* Registration as a clinical/counselling psychologist with the HCPC.
* Experience of working with client groups in a physical health setting, presenting with the full range of clinical severity.
* Experience of applying cognitive‑behavioural approaches to clinical settings.
* Experience exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment.
* Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
* Knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis within clinical psychology.
* Knowledge of at least two specialised psychological therapies.

Desirable

* Training in additional specialised areas of psychological relevance.
* Experience within medical/surgical environments delivering evidence‑based psychological interventions (haematology, HIV).
* Experience in providing supervision and training.
* Knowledge of legislation relevant to IBPS service and mental health.
* Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.

Salary & Conditions

Band 8A – £55,690 to £62,682 pro rata. Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Part‑time 0.7 WTE. Location: Manchester Royal Infirmary, M13 9WL.
