We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed professional to teach on a range of programmes in Policing and the Uniformed Services, including NCFE Levels 1 – 5 and Higher National Diploma (HE). The role will involve attending outdoor and residential activities and delivering / supporting some fitness training. You will also need to be able to drive a minibus or be prepared to undertake relevant training.
You will need to be qualified to a minimum of Level 3, and have work experience in the Police, other emergency services or the Armed Services. Some teaching/training experience is desirable, but more important is the ability to communicate effectively and be able to engage young people aged 16-19. If you are not a trained teacher, the College will fully fund and support you to obtain this qualification.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST
The main purpose of the job is to ensure the retention and achievement of students through the delivery of good practice in teaching and learning. The Lecturer will teach, develop and improve programmes of study in subjects and courses relevant to the post-holder’s knowledge, qualifications and experience.
DUTIES SPECIFIC TO THE POST
Outdoor activities, drill, residential activities and a high level of discipline are an essential part of the student experience of Uniformed Services, and a willingness to contribute to these is expected of all staff. The Uniformed Services course at Uxbridge College is among one of the best in the country, with a success rate well above National Average and an excellent enrichment programme to help prepare students to progress onto either Higher Education or employment in the Uniformed Services. An ability to drive these high standards is essential.
All Lecturers have a generic list of duties (see below). Duties specific to the Lecturer in Uniformed Services include: -
1. Teaching on a range of subjects associated with Uniformed Services, including NCFE Levels 1 – 5 and Higher National Diploma (HE)
2. To assist the Section Manager and Head of School in the initiation, planning and
development of new courses within the area of Uniformed Services.
Qualifications:
3. Minimum of Level 3 qualification
4. A recognised full teaching qualification for the FE sector at Level 5 or above (e.g. PGCE, DET)** or willingness and ability to work towards a teaching qualification, supported by the College
5. English and Maths at GCSE Grade C / 4 or equivalent, or willing to achieve
6. Emergency First Aid certificate or willing or obtain
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
7. Experience of working in the Uniformed Public Services (Armed Forces and/or Emergency Services)
8. Teaching or training experience in the subject area
9. Up to date knowledge of the relevant subject area
10. Willingness to engage in outdoor pursuits and residential activities
11. Summer Mountain Leader (training) qualification or equivalent or willingness to work towards
12. Ability to deliver fitness training
13. Ability to instruct and lead map and compass/ navigational activities
