A robotics, satellite systems, and Geointelligence pioneer with a 55-year+ story of world firsts and more than 450 missions, MDA Space is a global leader in communications satellites, Earth and space observation, and space exploration and infrastructure. The MDA Space team of more than 3,000 space experts in Canada, the US, and the UK has the knowledge and know-how to turn an audacious customer vision into an achievable mission.
We’re on the hunt for an 5G systems engineer to join our UK team, which supports European customers and develops advanced space sensors and communication technology for exploration missions. This role involves working on the next generation of 5G NTN satellite systems, focusing on system level analysis, payload and ground segment definition, and standardization engagement.
Responsibilities:
1. Generate systems level requirements, specifications, and interface definitions.
2. Perform system design trade-offs and analyze system performance requirements.
3. Develop system/payload CONOPs and architecture, emphasizing onboard processors and software for mobile broadband and M2M needs.
4. Define requirements for onboard processors, leveraging existing solutions and technologies.
5. Support technology maturation and risk reduction for system elements.
6. Assist in business development and proposal activities.
7. Conduct specification trade-off negotiations with stakeholders.
Requirements:
1. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Math, or Physics; Master’s or PhD preferred.
2. Experience in developing and analyzing end-to-end system requirements and trade studies.
3. Knowledge of 5G NR, NB-IoT, and related standards (e.g., ORAN, Small Cell Forum).
4. Understanding of 5G core networks and end-to-end communication system design.
5. Proven ability to write proposals and develop technical presentations.
6. Minimum of 5 years experience in communications system engineering.
7. Excellent communication skills and experience working with multiple stakeholders, including government agencies like ESA.
Experience with space industry technologies, phased array antennas, and onboard processing is highly desirable.
