We are a growing UK accounting firm providing compliance and advisory services to owner managed businesses, freelancers, and high net worth individuals.
We are looking for a Senior Accounts & Tax Accountant with hands on experience in a small UK accounting practice, who is confident managing their own client portfolio and delivering high quality accounts and tax work with minimal supervision.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys end to end responsibility, client interaction, and working closely with directors in a modern, tech enabled firm.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts & Compliance
• Preparation and review of statutory accounts for:
o Limited companies (FRS 105 & FRS 102)
o Sole traders and partnerships
• Preparation of corporation tax computations and CT600s
• Preparation and submission of VAT returns (standard, flat rate, cash accounting)
• Preparation of management accounts where required
• Liaising with HMRC and Companies House on client matters
Personal Tax
• Preparation and review of Self Assessment tax returns
• Capital Gains Tax calculations (property & investment disposals)
• Advising clients on basic tax planning opportunities
• Handling HMRC queries, enquiries, and disclosures
Client Management
• Managing a portfolio of SME and individual clients
• Acting as the main point of contact for assigned clients
• Providing clear, practical advice (non jargon, client friendly)
• Taking new client meetings and supporting fee proposals
Practice & Team Support
• Reviewing work prepared by junior staff
• Mentoring and supporting trainees and juniors
• Improving internal processes and workflows
• Supporting partners/directors with ad hoc advisory work
Essential Experience & Skills
✅ Minimum 3–5 years’ experience working in a UK small or mid sized accounting practice
✅ Strong experience preparing year end accounts and tax returns independently
✅ Confident handling limited company compliance end to end
✅ Practical knowledge of UK tax rules (CT, IT, VAT)
✅ Experience using cloud accounting software such as:
• Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent
• TaxCalc / IRIS / CCH (or similar)
✅ Comfortable managing deadlines and multiple clients
✅ Strong communication skills with non technical clients
✅ Strong inclination to adopt new technologies and improve existing processes resulting in productivity gains
Qualifications
• ACA / ACCA / CTA qualified or finalist (or qualified by experience)
• ATT desirable but not essential

• Experience with MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment
• Basic advisory exposure (profit extraction, remuneration planning)
• Experience working with:
o Contractors
o Property landlords
o Professional services businesses
• Supervisory or review experience
