Do you enjoy turning technical expertise into practical, long term asset management solutions?

Position Overview

We are looking for a part‑time traffic signals engineer with proven experience in the delivery of traffic signals maintenance, and identifying and delivering programmes of capital replacement and renewal works for traffic signals across North East Lincolnshire.

This Engineer will take a lead role in the development of policies and programmes of work for the council's traffic signals assets, contributing to delivery of the Council's Highway Asset Management Policy and Strategy, and fulfilment of the Council's responsibilities for maintenance of the highway network, aligned to delivery of local and national objectives, to ensure that the highway network is protected as a valuable asset for future generations.

Responsibilities

Based in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire you will deliver the Traffic Signal maintenance service by supervising and liaising, on a day‑to‑day basis, with the Term Maintenance Contractor. This includes advising on contractual and safety matters and dealing with any reports or complaints from the Public or stakeholders, monitoring and reporting faults in a timely manner, monitoring the permanent automatic traffic signal and the Council's SCOT system and associated Wireless MESH system within North East Lincolnshire.

On a less frequent basis, you will review, develop and implement NELC policies and procedures for the highway traffic signals service, and identify and develop ideas and initiatives that support the "Smart Cities" agenda and council's zero carbon roadmap, including management of the council's rising bollard assets.

Qualifications

We are looking for a reliable, self‑motivated individual who can work well on their own or as part of a team, who is enthusiastic about making a difference in improving highway infrastructure in North East Lincolnshire, and who has the required experience and drive to excel in this team.

Key dates: Interviews will be held on 22nd May 2026.

Benefits

As part of your RewardNEL package you will have a generous leave entitlement (including bank holidays) and enrolment into a local government pension. You will also have access to our exclusive RewardNEL platform, which includes a variety of salary sacrifice schemes, discounts at local coffee shops and bars, direct access to our in‑house wellbeing support, free and discounted local car parking as well as instant access to new savings at major retailers, entertainment and hotels. NELC staff can also benefit from flexible working and excellent training and development opportunities and a fostering friendly scheme.

Equal Opportunities

We regularly review data to ensure our recruitment processes are fair, transparent and promote equal opportunities for all. We also have an in‑house Equalities Champions Group that works to promote and embed inclusivity in the workplace, helping us identify areas where we can take positive action, and make the organisation a safe space for colleagues to feel connected.
