* Salary: Grade H £37,280 - £39,862 or Grade J £40,777 - £45,091 a year

The introduction of the Renters’ Rights Act has opened up a fantastic opportunity for the Private Rented Sector Team here at Derby City Council to expand and welcome new staff.

Are you a qualified and experienced Environmental Health Officer looking for a new challenge where you can make a tangible impact on the local community? We are seeking a dynamic, experienced EHO to join our busy team here at Derby. You will lead on complex casework, improve public health standards, and help shape a safer, healthier environment for our residents.

The opportunity

* Inspect dwellings and enforce statutory provisions to ensure compliance with the authorities’ statutory obligations, and provide guidance, information, and training to landlords to aid their compliance.
* Prepare, monitor and authorise legal and other documentation, and to instigate legal proceedings to ensure compliance with the authorities’ statutory obligations.
* Keep up to date with relevant legislation, standards, guidance, and other information to develop specialist knowledge of relevant subject areas to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
* Attend and contribute to meetings, committees, public enquiries, tribunals, and court hearings in a technical, expert, or advisory capacity.


About you

* BSc or MSc in Environmental Health, backed by a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB).
* Proven track record in a local authority or regulatory environment.
* Deep understanding of current UK housing legislation.
* Excellent negotiation, report‑writing, and conflict‑resolution skills.
