Sullivan Upper School is a large, co-educational, interdenominational grammar school set in 25 acres of scenic grounds overlooking Belfast Lough. The Food and Nutrition Department is a thriving part of the curriculum, teaching pupils from Key Stage 3 through to GCSE and A Level.
The Role
We're seeking an enthusiastic and organised Technician (Food and Nutrition) to support the day-to-day running of our busy Food and Nutrition Department.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare, set up, and clear away equipment and ingredients for practical lessons and exams
* Maintain high standards of hygiene across food rooms, storage, and equipment
* Manage and rotate stock, ensuring ingredients and supplies are safely stored
* Assist teachers in creating and maintaining classroom resources and displays
* Support the smooth running of lessons and provide assistance during practical sessions
* Ensure compliance with food safety, health and safety, and hygiene regulations
* Carry out daily cleaning duties and laundry tasks for the department
* Maintain and update departmental inventories and records
* Assist with purchasing, ordering, and budget tracking for materials
* Provide administrative support, including photocopying and resource preparation
* Support department events such as Open Day and practical examinations

The Ideal Candidate
* Minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grades A–C) including English and Maths (or equivalent)
* Knowledge of food hygiene and health and safety procedures
* Understanding of practical food preparation and presentation techniques
* Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
* Strong organisational and planning abilities
* Able to work both independently and as part of a team
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Calm, adaptable, and able to work under pressure
Desirable:
* A Level or higher qualification in Food and Nutrition (or related subject)
* First Aid qualification
* Experience working as a technician in a school or commercial kitchen
* Experience with stock management and equipment maintenance
* Experience working as a technician in an educational setting
* Experience working in a commercial environment
