Job Title: Assistant Transport Manager

Lloyd Recruitment are partnering with a leading transport and logistics provider, who are looking to recruit an Assistant Transport Manager to join their team. This is a hands-on role supporting the day-to-day running of fulfilment operations, ensuring deliveries are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with industry regulations.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their transport management experience while remaining operationally involved.
You will also provide (where possible) ad hoc HGV driving support, moving vehicles, covering deliveries in emergencies, and supporting fleet operations as required. This is however discretionary depending on your experience.
Assistant Transport Manager Key Responsibilities:
Support compliance with drivers' hours regulations, Working Time Directive, vehicle weight limits, and Operator Licence obligations
Ensure planned maintenance inspections (PMIs) are scheduled and recorded accurately, and maintain vehicle compliance documentation
Assist with route planning, vehicle utilisation, and operational adjustments to maximise fleet efficiency and service performance
Coordinate deliveries, confirming arrangements, site access, and unloading requirements, and escalate delays or issues where necessary
Support coordination of drivers and fleet assets, ensuring legal compliance and operational readiness
Maintain fleet service and defect records, carry out walkarounds and spot checks, and monitor tyre condition and load security procedures
Support driver performance, attendance, training, and induction compliance. Escalate performance or conduct issues where required
Liaise with external service providers, maintenance suppliers, and third-party partners to ensure fleet availability and vehicle servicing
Accurately record and report transport data, supporting KPIs covering service performance, efficiency, and compliance
Monitor transport-related costs, including fuel, maintenance, repairs, and agency driver spend, highlighting issues or opportunities for improvement
Support continuous improvement initiatives and provide cover within the transport operation where required
What We're Looking For:
Minimum 2 years' experience in a transport or logistics office environment
HGV driving experience (desirable)
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Confident, professional communication with a customer-focused approach
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced operational environment
Commitment to health, safety, and legal compliance
Flexible approach to working hours to meet operational needs
