Job Summary
Part‑time minimum 3 days per week or full‑time 5 days per week covering Aylesbury, Amersham and High Wycombe. Travel across sites is essential. Hours of work 8:45 – 16:45 Monday to Friday.
Dental nursing duties include assisting clinicians (dentists, dental therapists, hygienists) in treating special care and paediatric patients and assisting patients within Secure Units.
Responsibilities
* Ensure the surgery is welcoming and prepared for the type of patient and treatment planned.
* Provide chair‑side assistance to the clinician, including treating special care patients with learning or physical disabilities, complex medical conditions, diagnosed mental health conditions, anxious children and adults. Act under the supervision and direction of the clinician.
* Assist in the provision of dental treatment on a domiciliary basis.
* (Following training) Assist in the provision of dental treatment under inhalation sedation.
* (Following training) Assist in the provision of dental care under general anaesthesia.
* May be required to assist when carrying out screenings or epidemiological surveys including any related duties.
* Maintain high standards in infection prevention and control.
* Safely dispose of sharps and clinical waste.
* Interpret the needs of patients, carers and clinicians and respond promptly and efficiently.
* Work within the framework of national guidance, Trust policies and local operating procedures.
* Assist the clinician with the completion of patient records, including the use of a computerised system.
* Provide reassurance and support for patients during their treatment; calm and reassure patients who exhibit challenging behaviour.
* Carry out clerical duties associated with the running of the clinic (appointment making, answering telephone calls and general enquiries, collection of mail, taking and accounting of monies received).
* Undertake specific duties delegated by clinicians, senior management team and Dental Nurse Manager.
* May include stores/stock control duties at the specified clinic as required.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* Good general education up to GCSE O level standard / NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience.
* Current and full UK registration with the General Dental Council.
Desirable Qualifications
* Additional relevant Dental Nurse Certificate.
Essential Experience
* Current or recent experience working as a dental nurse with clinical commitment in hospital, salaried or general dental service.
* Able to supervise trainees and unqualified staff.
* Clerical experience of using dental software packages.
Desirable Experience
* Previous NHS experience within a specialised service.
* Experience of assisting with provision of care under general anaesthesia.
* Experience of assisting with provision of care under inhalation sedation.
* Experience of assisting with provision of care on a domiciliary basis.
* Experience of working in secure settings.
* Experience of working with a dentist to carry out screenings or epidemiological surveys.

* Professional registration: Current UK registration with the General Dental Council is mandatory.

* Salary: £27,485 to £30,162 per annum (pro rata if P/T).
