Hours: 30 hours per week over 7 days. Salary: £12.86 per hour + rewards & Benefits.

Sue Ryder is one of the largest charity retailers in the UK with over 400 shops. Every item sold in our shops generates funding to provide 2.7 million hours of expert medical, practical, bereavement and emotional support each year in our hospices, in people’s homes and in the community. We are here to ensure everyone approaching the end of life or living with grief can access the support they need.
We have a much-loved presence on high streets across the country with a range of innovative shops, including boutiques, vintage and retro shops, and large format stores. As a member of the retail team, you’ll help us inspire communities to provide more care for more people through innovation and collaboration on ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. You will also contribute to driving up income to fund our care and support services.
We understand our people are our most important asset and we work to ensure you feel valued and included as part of a team. In retail most work every weekend; our managers mainly work only 1 in 2. We don\u2019t expect our teams to work past 5.15 pm in most shops. The earliest start is 8.45 am. We have every Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day off.
About the shop
A well-stocked, quirky charity shop on a lively high street. Our Cottingham shop shines brightly among charity shops. It has an Aladdin’s cave feel — small enough to capture imagination, yet large enough to stock marvellous buys. Stock ranges from donated clothing to bric-a-brac, entertainment to kids’ toys. The shop is always interesting and popular with shoppers. There are two nearby car parks and it is within walking distance of the bus route and train station. Our shop is often praised by customers for the happy shopping atmosphere.
About you
Are you an experienced proactive shop manager? Do you have the retail skills to manage our charity store? If so, join the team at our Cottingham shop and contribute to the work we do across Sue Ryder.
To be successful in this role you’ll have the commercial awareness to deliver sales and meet deadlines, with the ability to plan and prioritise. You will have proven team leadership skills and the ability to lead a large team of volunteers. It is essential that you enjoy engaging with people, have a positive can-do attitude, and have a good understanding of financial and IT administration.
Responsibilities
* As Shop Manager you will use your retail experience to drive business, push sales and achieve targets.
* Lead your team to deliver excellent customer service to donors and customers.
* Work with the local community to generate sufficient donated stock to drive sales.
* Recruit, train & retain a volunteer team, providing leadership and guidance.
* Set high standards of merchandising and housekeeping, prioritising health and safety for you and your teams.
* Manage effective stock processes to keep the shop well merchandised with fresh, seasonal stock.
* Act as a brand ambassador for Sue Ryder, supporting in-store campaigns to promote the brand and national fundraising initiatives.
* Manage stock processes through the Epos operation.
