The Role
This is a hands-on, senior assistant manager position within a modern, high-performing poultry operation. You’ll be the right hand to the Farm Manager, with real responsibility for bird welfare, production performance, people management, and compliance.
This is not a stepping-stone admin role. You’ll be on the ground, in the sheds, managing stock, leading teams, and ensuring the unit performs commercially, ethically, and compliantly.
Key Responsibilities

Day-to-day management of poultry units, ensuring exceptional bird welfare at all times
*
Deputising for the Farm Manager and supporting site leadership and decision-making
*
Monitoring flock performance: FCR, mortality, growth rates, uniformity, and health
*
Implementing and maintaining biosecurity, welfare, and assurance standards (Red Tractor, RSPCA, retailer codes)
*
Managing and motivating farm teams, including rotas, training, and performance
*
Liaising with vets, nutritionists, hatcheries, and live operations teams
*
Ensuring full compliance with H&S, animal welfare legislation, and company SOPs
*
Accurate record keeping and reporting on flock data and KPIs
About You
*
Proven experience as an Assistant Farm Manager, Senior Stockperson, or Unit Manager within poultry (broilers, layers, or breeders)
*
Strong understanding of commercial poultry production and welfare-led farming
*
Confident leading people and taking responsibility in the Farm Manager’s absence
*
Practical, resilient, and comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced farm environment
*
Competent with farm management systems, data recording, and performance metrics
*
Full UK driving licence
