Waking Night Carer in York, YO23. Waking Night Carer position available for a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated SEN professional to support a young person with complex medical needs. Offering up to £17.50 per hour | £210.00 per shift. Gross.

Nearest Tube/Station: York Railway Station
Wage/Salary: £17.00 Weekdays | £17.50 Weekends | Shift: £204.00 Gross Per Weekday | Shift: £210.00 Per Weekend. All figures quoted in gross.
Driver essential? Highly desirable
Essential: Experienced Waking Night Carer. Previous experience supporting a young person with additional needs. Confident in manual handling. Non-smoker/vaper.
Desirable: Tube Feeding, Suctioning (oral), and Chest Physio.
Start Date: ASAP
Days & Hours: 9.00pm to 9.00am (term-time weekdays) and 8.00pm to 8.00am (school holidays and weekends). Full and part-time contracts available. Overtime/additional hours available.

About this client: Meet Charlie, a fun, sociable, and happy 15-year-old with a love of football and gaming. He has complex medical needs, including dyskinetic cerebral palsy, dystonia, developmental delay, and sensory impairments. Charlie uses a wheelchair, requires oral suctioning, chest physio, and oxygen. He communicates mainly via Eye Gaze technology and has a PEG for nutrition and medication. Despite his needs, Charlie is full of life and humor.

Role overview: The Waking Night Carer will provide hands-on support during unpredictable nights, focusing on pain management, repositioning, soothing, and personal care to ensure Charlie's comfort. You will stay in his room throughout the night and can rest when he is settled. The morning routine starts at 6.30am, with support from Mum or day staff. Accurate record-keeping and detailed handovers are required.

Candidate profile: Calm, resilient, compassionate, experienced in supporting young people with complex needs, with excellent communication skills. Support for Leeds United is a bonus. Availability for additional day hours once or twice a month is preferred.
