Overview
A personal assistant is required to support a fourteen-year-old autistic boy with ADHD and Tourette’s Syndrome, based in Falmouth. The role involves 1:1 support to help him engage in local community activities and develop his independence. He is sociable and enjoys exploring new activities and clubs and may need adult supervision to navigate social cues effectively.
Responsibilities
* Provide one-to-one support to help the young person engage in local community activities and develop independence.
* Build a positive and trusting relationship with the young person.
* Assist with navigating social situations and cues as needed.
* Support the young person with interests such as Airsoft, Air Cadets, and gaming, with a view to broadening activities and clubs.
* Monitor safety and well-being during activities and outings.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Experience supporting young people on the autism spectrum is advantageous.
* A full driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
* Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check; administration will be handled by Cornwall Council. The role is a private arrangement with the family and not employment by Cornwall Council.
* Availability: approximately 3 hours per week, with flexible scheduling and some weekend and school holiday availability.
Compensation and Terms
* Rate of pay is £12.60 per hour, with potential for a higher rate depending on experience and relevant skills.
* Location: Falmouth.
* There is an expectation to support the young person in building confidence and making meaningful progress in their life.
* Employment is a private arrangement with the family; no sponsorship is available for this role.
