We are part of a small team of well‑respected sonographers who provide a high standard of examinations. The role is supported by the onsite Regional Fetal Medicine team, the lead Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, and the broader hospital Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
As a Specialist Sonographer you will:
* Perform high‑risk obstetric ultrasound scans in collaboration with the Fetal Medicine team.
* Interpret scans and provide comprehensive, independent diagnostic reports.
* Prioritise requests, select appropriate scanning techniques, and ensure best‑practice compliance.
* Teach, mentor, and support colleagues’ training and development.
* Respond appropriately to distressed patients and staff in challenging circumstances.
Flexible working may involve evenings and weekends as part of normal duties.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
Essential Criteria
* Post‑graduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound
* Appropriate Professional Registration (e.g., HCPC, RCT, NMC)
* Relevant Degree or equivalent
* Post‑qualification experience in an ultrasound department
* Relevant clinical courses and completed preceptorship & capability framework for sonographers
* Quality assurance supervision and practice
* Sound knowledge of Governance areas including H&S, COSHH, Manual Handling
* Experience of teaching, mentoring, and supporting colleagues' training and development
* Ability to interpret clinicians’ requirements, recognise urgency, prioritise requests and determine appropriate scanning technique
* Capability to interpret scans and provide independent diagnostic reports, making appropriate diagnoses
* Leadership or management experience or equivalent qualification
* Ability to respond appropriately to distressed patients and staff, including suspected physical abuse, major trauma, cancer and death
* Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable Criteria
* Evidence of presenting or publishing local audit, research, or case studies
* Trained and experienced in more than one area of ultrasound
* Experience of audit and research
